More about Nowa Huta
Nowa Huta is a town with a fascinating design, the town of the steelwork factory, an industrial district of Krakow, was the pride of the communist era in Poland. The planning and building of Nowa Huta started in the late 1940‘s. lt was to be an indepeendent city, a socialist utopia and completely self sufficient as the show piece of an ideal city to the world. Many shops, cinemas, theaters, parks and hospitals, were planned with nice avenues and sqaures. Nowa Huta was a big architectural project on a world scale. Building one of the largest steel works in the world of that time was accompanied by communist propaganda. Today the generations who built Nowa Huta are fading away, however when you are in Nowa Huta and you use a little imagination you can still feel the spirit and atmostphere of the place. No matter what the future brings this town will always remain a legend.
The quarter’s center has already been entered into Krakow’s register of historical monuments of architecture. Today the town awaits new challenges. At present, efforts are being made to have Nowa Huta entered into the UNESCO World Herritage list.
